"Far Out" Apple event 2022 recap
Get this or you die
The September Apple event has happened, this one is called the "Far Out" event, and it went pretty far out with the new releases, it had some minor refinements, some huge upgrades, and some entirely new products in their categories.
So let’s start.
First I have to acknowledge one of my favorite parts of every Apple event, the intro transition which ends in Apple park, and this one was pretty cool too, starting off in the stars, to Earth, to the USA, to the Apple park and it was pretty amazing.
Right before announcing the watch, they showed an ad showing some instances from all around the world in which terrifying instances were shown in which the watch saved people's lives. Some of these experiences were truly terrifying and how amazing it is that a 1.5 inch, 10 mm thick cuboid can save lives and for some people can change significantly, but it was implying that if you don’t get the Apple watch you will die.
The first product unveiled was the Apple watch specifically the series 8, the series 8 keeps the same design as the series 7 externally, now having one more temperature sensor resulting in more accurate data. Many new features were shown towards cycle tracking and now with the help of more temp. sensor and oxygen data, it gives an estimated date on when one will ovulate.
Now series 8 houses new motion sensors like a 3-axis gyroscope and a new accelerometer helping to achieve a new feature called crash detection which detects when a car crash has happened and sends an SOS to the rescue forces, now series 8 can detect 256g of force which is many more than you can use at the time of the crash. The new low-power mode is also introduced which can extend battery life up to 36h of battery life. The watch now supports international roaming. All these are powered by the new s8 processor. New bands and Nike bands were also introduced, with a new Hermes band which looks really expensive.
Series 8 now starts at Rs.45900 for the GPS model.
A new 2nd gen watch SE was also unveiled, with new features being the s8 processor same as series 8, crash detection, color-matched cases as the bands, and other things being the same as first gen SE.
New SE starts at Rs.29900 for the GPS model.
A completely new product to the watch lineup, the Apple watch ultra was also announced, I think it’s really cool. It features a 49 mm case made of Titanium and a display of Sapphire glass, it is the most rugged Apple watch yet.
It features a flat display which can go 2000 nits peak brightness, an extra customizable button called the action button is there and a crown guard for protecting the crown wheel, it only comes in the cellular model, twice as water resistant at WR100, with the biggest battery life at 36h and 60h with low power mode, and three new bands for alpine, trail and loop, it also has more accurate GPS with a dual frequency of L1 and L5, a new super dense information based watch face and with all the other features from the series 8 too.
Next was Airpods time with the second gen Airpods pro. It keeps the same design as the last one. Now it has new low distortion drivers. It is powered by the H2 chip which helps in doing 2x Active Noise Cancellation, personalized spatial audio, and adaptive transparency which blocks high-frequency sounds in the background, it also improves battery life with 6h of listening time and 30h with the case. An additional XS size ear tip is also given and it also features a touch control for changing volume. It also has a lanyard hole for lanyards and can also be charged with the Apple watch charger.
Now the star of the show was shown, the iphones, starting with the iphone 14 at 6.1 inches and in a new size iphone 14 plus at 6.7 inches. A new ISP(Image Signal Pipeline) is featured called the photonic engine(apple really names everything) which helps in much better low light photos, it inherits the sensor and lens from the 13 pros which result in better photos, and the front camera now has autofocus, it also has better battery life and a completely new and useful feature at certain situations called emergency SOS with satellite connectivity which sends an SOS in emergency situations and can save someone's life.
It also has crash detection on the watch. The iphone 14 has the same processor as the 13, five colors and a new blue one and nothing else has changed. You can think of 14 as a 13 pro minus the telephoto lens and promotion.
The 14 starts at Rs.79900 and the 14 plus at Rs.89900.
Now the flagship phone from Apple was shown, iphone 14 pro and 14 pro max, being powered by the new A16 bionic built on a 4nm process, it powers new camera features which increase the photo and video quality, like the photonic engine which will give better low light photos, now the cinematic mode can record in 4k at 24 or 30 fps, front-facing camera with autofocus, and the main camera now housing a 48MP sensor which will help in capturing sharper photos and will be able to get 48MP shots in proRAW, a new 2x telephoto setting.
Better battery life, the display’s peak outdoor brightness now being 2000 nits which is eye-watering levels of high, and the biggest improvement being the pill-shaped notch called the "Dynamic Island"(I don't feel good about this name) which adapts from app to app and keeps the apps in the pill by enlarging it, and will be available to 3rd party apps too. Also, the feature people have been asking for for years now, Always On Display is finally here which dims the lock screen instead of going completely blank.
Starting at Rs.129900 for 14 pro and Rs.139900 for 14 pro max(62% more than the US pricing at $999)
Those transitions were incredible.
Overall the event was a good one and introduced some really good things.
This was my recap of the Far Out Apple event.
Stay Amazing.
